35th Anniversary Open House - Press Release

Friends Memorial Church will mark the 35^th anniversary of its preschool program with a public open house from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday in the church, 418 W. Adams St.

 The church’s Preschool Committee has issued special invitations to the hundreds of children and parents who have been part of Friends Preschool, as well as teachers, teacher aides and committee members who have been involved in the program.

 “We want to encourage anyone who has been connected with our preschool to attend,” said Gloria Mantock, clerk and longtime member of the committee that oversees the school. “We will recognize all of those people and pay special tribute to three individuals (all deceased) – Christina and Earl Conn and Alan Garinger -- who were so instrumental in the success of the program.”

 Christina Conn taught for many years at the preschool; Earl Conn and Garinger provided generous financial support, and Garinger was a longtime member of the preschool committee.

 “We have been blessed by so many excellent teachers and church members who have supported our program, and certainly by the many children and parents that we have come to know over the years,” Mantock said.

 The church’s preschool committee has included many professional educators, often with expertise in early childhood education.

 “Our constant goal is to create a positive learning environment for body, mind, and spirit,” Mantock said, “as well as welcoming students of all faiths and nationalities.”

 Those planning to attend are invited to bring play dough (in its container) to help create a “mountain of play dough,” Mantock said. “Alan Garinger often suggested we try to do that in order to draw attention to our school, so this will honor his idea.”

 The open house will also include refreshments and several displays of photos taken throughout the school’s history.

What do we do at Friends Preschool?

Sometimes we just sit and listen,	Sometimes we just run and play,	Sometimes we may sing a song or two,	But we have snack time everyday.
Sometimes people come talk to us,	And sometimes it's the book lady too,	We might have a make-believe picnic,	Or we might even go to a zoo.
